This is my intrepretation of Carl Rytterfalk’s sd1 raw file of man asleep in Kunming, China. You can download his x3f file here. I decided to give it a “Fuji 800z” look where the shadows are cyanish green and the highlights has a tinge of rose red. Then I warmed it up just a little bit to make it the floors, a touch of pink. You can download the high-res here. Let me know if my emulation looks real cause foveon sensors are the closest thing to making your digital raw files look like it was shot on film. Then it’s just a question of how to intrepret a film stock’s colour and apply it to your x3f file.

I was never a believer of super-zooms until I tried the Nikon 28-300 vr zoom lens. Paired with my high-iso capable D3s, this combination is lethal and allows me to shoot under most lighting situations, with reason of course. I did have to use bounce flash indoors as I like to keep my ISO under 3200k. But for the most part, shooting the 28-300 wide open was like shooting a prime stopped down. The results are stunning for a 10x super zoom. I think this lens will stay on my body for awhile. For the photo geeks, here are couple of shots from Jewel’s 8th grade graduation party and musings around Central Park, all shot wide-open. Definitely my best all around lens!
